Roger Waters‘ Amused to Death, a guest-packed – and still very relevant – indictment of a screen-obsessed culture, is returning with a multi-format remastering.
The reissue, due July 24, will be available in a variety of configurations, including CD, CD/Blu-ray, SACD, hi-res digital download, two-LP 200-gram vinyl and limited-edition numbered two-LP picture disc vinyl. Look for a new 5.1 surround remix of the original 1992 album on high-def Blu-ray audio, and a new remastered stereo mix by longtime Waters and Pink Floyd collaborator and co-producer James Guthrie.
“Iâ™m remembering the record from [more than] 20 years ago, that most of what I had to say then sadly still pertains today, and is maybe even more relevant to our predicament as people in 2015 even than it was in 1992,” Waters says in a press release announcing the reissue.
Amused to Death, which was produced by Waters and Patrick Leonard, included guest turns by Jeff Beck (on seven tracks), Don Henley (“Watching TV”), Toto‘s Steve Lukather (three songs) and Jeff Porcaro (“Itâ™s a Miracle”), Randy Jackson (“What God Wants, Part I and II”) and Rita Coolidge (“Amused to Death”). Regular collaborators like Andy Fairweather Low rounded out the lineup. This project also featured a reunion with arranger Michael Kamen, who also oversaw orchestrations on Pink Floydâ™s 1979 blockbuster The Wall.
Sean Evans, creative director for Watersâ™ subsequent solo tours of The Wall, has created a new cover image for the reissue, which you can see above. Guthrie earned an engineering Grammy for his work on The Wall, then co-produced 1983′s The Final Cut and mixed and mastered several post-Waters Pink Floyd projects.
