   Jess è un'eccentrica e spumeggiante ragazza che, alla soglia dei trent'anni, si trova a dover gestire e superare la rottura di una lunga relazione sentimentale. Bisognosa di un nuovo posto dove andare a vivere, trova una stanza in un loft già abitato da tre ragazzi: Nick, un barista, Schmidt, un moderno Casanova, e Winston, un ex giocatore di basket che non ha sfondato. In breve tempo Jess scombussola l'intera esistenza dei tre ragazzi, i quali però, inaspettatamente, si affezionano subito a questa giovane donna ingenua e un po' imbranata; a completare questo improbabile gruppo c'è Cece, modella e migliore amica di Jess. Quella che all'inizio appare come una problematica e "disfunzionale" convivenza, finisce col diventare una grande amicizia, e in breve tutti e cinque gli amici si rendono conto di non poter fare a meno l'uno dell'altro. Venendo coinvolti nelle situazioni più diverse, Jess e i suoi amici finiscono così per aiutarsi sempre a vicenda, imparando ogni volta qualcosa sull'amore, la vita e su loro stessi. ================ Jessica "Jess" Day (Zooey Deschanel) is a bubbly young woman who teaches at a Los Angeles middle school. Jess comes home to find her boyfriend with another woman and leaves him. She answers an ad for a new roommate on Craigslist, and moves in with three young men: Nick, Schmidt, and Coach. After the pilot episode, Winston, who had previously lived in the apartment with Nick and Schmidt, replaces Coach. Cece, Jessica's childhood best friend and a fashion model, also appears in various episodes in the storyline. Coach returns to the loft in season 3.
