Cage The Gods are new and exciting; they are British and young; they are cut from the same song writing die that has produced some of the biggest selling and longest lasting rock acts of a bygone era and who still manage to dominate a space in contemporary music culture today – The Rolling Stones, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Free, Boston, The Black Crowes, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi… the list, like the careers of the aforementioned is endless and lasting.

Showcasing accomplished musicianship and well-crafted songs with a strong sense of modernity and relevance, the members of Cage The Gods share a common belief that above all else the songs and live performance should speak loudest. They revel on stage and perform with an explosive high-energy that exudes maturity and understanding of their craft well beyond their tender years.

So how did a motley crew of young rockers from the four corners of the British Isles manage to jockey themselves into such an enviable position and in such a short space of time?
Irish vocalist and lyricist Peter Comerford, together with Scottish guitarist and songwriter James ‘Jam’ Moncur hooked up in the summer of 2012 to record an album of tracks they had recently penned. Without any sense of pre ordained direction but a shared love of the songs of Jagger/Richards, Page/Plant, Bono/Edge by November 2012 they had produced, recorded and mixed their debut album Badlands at Jam’s home studio in Brighton. It was a free spirited production without any specific pressure or raison d’être – but they knew they had something.

The idea of creating a live band to perform the tracks that they had just recorded, parachuted in as a last minute thought. Cue 6’7” Welsh bassist Mitch Witham, part time male model and owner of more Sex Pistols t-shirts than Top Shop. The three members then enlisted 22-year-old English drummer Colin Jones who stepped in to complete the line up with bombastic flare.

On November 25, 2013, the group released the Favourite Sin EP through The End Records, which quickly caught the attention from press including Revolver Magazine, Artist Direct (launched the worldwide premiere of the ‘Favourite Sin’ video), All Access Magazine, to respected websites like HardRockHaven.net who heralded the group by saying, “Cage The Gods’ first release has good variation in both pace and style, and it is a promising debut for a band that could have a pretty promising career ahead of them.”

In simplest terms, it could be argued that the reason Cage The Gods have progressed so far and so quickly in 2013 is down to the old-fashioned and elusive skill that all artists strive for – great and unquantifiable song writing. Everything about the group is self-driven with boundless energy coupled with a natural song writing ability. They see no obstacles and refuse to accommodate any negative thoughts, or as Comerford puts it, “If there isn’t room for us in the rock scene, then we’ll make room.”

Melodic, catchy, accessible, memorable, uncluttered and layered with harmonic dimension and big choruses, the power of the initial songs which make up their debut album very quickly secured them a management deal, live agents in the USA and UK, a global album deal with a 2014 release on The End Records / Warner ADA in North America and on 7HzRecordings in the rest of the world. Not to mention a run of exciting support performances during 2013 with bands such as Heaven’s Basement, Tracer, The Answer, and Filter.

As featured in the recent issue of Classic Rock (magazine) 2014’s Hottest New Bands double page spread, 2014 will see them release their highly anticipated debut album Badlands in North America on March 25th (via The End Records) and in all other territories on March 31st. They will tour the UK and Europe as main support to The Treatment with further shows planned at Austin’s SXSW including a run of 20 US dates supporting Fuel and Buckcherry.

Upon returning to UK shores in late spring, they will then embark on their first headline UK club tour. These are certainly busy and heady times indeed.
