The original 'Prisoner: Cell Block H', famous for its denim uniforms, wobbly sets and deadly steam press, built up a massive loyal following of viewers when it was originally screened in the UK during the 80s and 90s.
Now, as the show's gritty remake 'Wentworth Prison' comes to Channel Five, 'Prisoner: Cell Block H' expert Barry Campbell gives us five reasons why fans of the original won't be disappointed...
1. All your favourite characters are back, albeit played by different actors in a brand new show. It's now 2013 and criminals are much more cunning!"
2. Some of Australia's finest acting talent have been cast in 'Wentworth Prison'. They were given the mammoth task of filling the shoes of such legendary characters as Bea Smith, Lizzie Birdsworth and Franky Doyle, but the results are simply stunning! Danielle Cormack plays Bea, who will take you on a rollercoaster ride from when Bea is first inducted to Wentworth, right through to the gripping finale in Episode ten. You won't want to miss a second!
3. As well as the old characters, we are introduced to a brand new Top Dog who could easily have been in the original series. Enter Kris McQuade as Jacs Holt. Be prepared for one of TV's biggest villains in years!
4. The original theme song can be heard in episode one in a fitting tribute to 'Prisoner: Cell Block H'.
5. The main reason you'll love this show is for the simple fact it was created to honour the legacy of the iconic Prisoner series. Lara Radulovich and Pete McTighe are both involved with the new show and are massive fans of the original. Having seen all ten episodes of the first season, they have done it fine justice. This is one re-imagining/remake that ticks all the boxes and we can't wait to have the women of Wentworth back on TV.
