Forget the mod connection, this is a three-disc, 50-track collection of late-era Jamaican ska and vintage rocksteady, and it has a wonderfully joyous summer-like feel. It is, in a nutshell, just plain fun, and features great sides like Tommy McCook's horn-driven instrumental "Riverton City," the Uniques' classic "A-Yuh," the equally classic "Gun Man Coming to Town" by the Heptones, the Maytals' gospel-fueled "Just Tell Me," and a beautiful Slim Smith version of "Build My World Around You." Varied and well paced, this is a set for a long summer's drive.
