Swamp People is an American reality/documentary television series that was first broadcast on History
on August 22, 2010. The show follows the day-to-day activities for several Cajuns living in the
Atchafalaya River Basin swamp in Louisiana, USA who hunt American alligators for a living.
Alligator season in Louisiana begins on the first Wednesday in September and lasts 30 days. In this
time limit, many of the alligator hunters, following a tradition dating back 300 years, earn most of
their yearly income in a high risk vocation dependent on experience and the whims of weather within
strict regulation by wildlife laws. Hunters are each issued a certain number of tags that must be
attached to their kills; once they "tag out"(run out of tags), their season is over, and they may no
longer kill any more alligators the rest of the season. During this 30 day window, some of these
hunters earn most of their annual income culling alligators; therefore, the ultimate goal for the
alligator hunters is to tag out before the season ends, with some tagging out in the final hours of
the season, and some saving the last tag for their prize catch, the biggest and most-menacing alligator
they can find. For seasoned hunters, alligator season is the most exciting—and dangerous—time of the
year. Most of the hunters spend the rest of the year harvesting other species(fish, crawfish, shrimp,
crabs, raccoons, turtles,) to augment their yearly incomes and/or holding down full-time jobs in other
industries.
Each season, the series focuses on five teams of alligator hunters, with each episode generally
featuring three or four teams, as they hunt gator, being subjected to the elements, and the viciousness
of the alligators. Some episodes also feature other aspects of the social and sporting life of the swamp,
including fishing and hunting for other animals, such as squirrel.

With 8 days to go in the season, the gator hunters find themselves competing with duck hunters, as it is
the start of duck season. And some find out that the duck hunters do not always play nice. R.J. and Jay Paul
start the day with a little duck hunting themselves before moving on to gator hunting, but not only they
found some of their lines knocked down, when they did find a gator, they found themselves without a gun,
which they left at home following the duck hunt, forcing them to kill the gator using a more archaic method,
a hammer. Bruce and Ron also found themselves with knocked down lines, leading to Ron to hunt for gator the
only other way he knows how, the sniper way. Liz, without an assistant(Jessica having gone back to work and
Kristi still not available), hires Glenn Guist to be her new assistant; while having fun on the hunt was a
sure fire way to lift Glenns spirits following Mitchells death, it was several years since Glenn hunted for
gator, which concerns Liz a little bit. And Bigfoot is spending more time daydreaming of duck hunting, which
caused him to lose scope of hunting for gator in waters that turned colder; and T-Roy is concerned that
Bigfoots dreams of hunting teal will be costing them gators, and it already costed them one.
