Swamp People is an American reality/documentary television series that was first broadcast on History
on August 22, 2010. The show follows the day-to-day activities for several Cajuns living in the
Atchafalaya River Basin swamp in Louisiana, USA who hunt American alligators for a living.
Alligator season in Louisiana begins on the first Wednesday in September and lasts 30 days. In this
time limit, many of the alligator hunters, following a tradition dating back 300 years, earn most of
their yearly income in a high risk vocation dependent on experience and the whims of weather within
strict regulation by wildlife laws. Hunters are each issued a certain number of tags that must be
attached to their kills; once they "tag out"(run out of tags), their season is over, and they may no
longer kill any more alligators the rest of the season. During this 30 day window, some of these
hunters earn most of their annual income culling alligators; therefore, the ultimate goal for the
alligator hunters is to tag out before the season ends, with some tagging out in the final hours of
the season, and some saving the last tag for their prize catch, the biggest and most-menacing alligator
they can find. For seasoned hunters, alligator season is the most exciting—and dangerous—time of the
year. Most of the hunters spend the rest of the year harvesting other species(fish, crawfish, shrimp,
crabs, raccoons, turtles,) to augment their yearly incomes and/or holding down full-time jobs in other
industries.
Each season, the series focuses on five teams of alligator hunters, with each episode generally
featuring three or four teams, as they hunt gator, being subjected to the elements, and the viciousness
of the alligators. Some episodes also feature other aspects of the social and sporting life of the swamp,
including fishing and hunting for other animals, such as squirrel.

The gator season is in full swing, but circumstances forced the hunting teams to change partners. Troy, after
losing Brandon last episode, steals Chase away from Jacob, but when they yielded only small gators in areas
where Chase thought there were giants, he began to entertain second thoughts. Meanwhile, Jacob finds a new
partner of his own, Marie Lacoste, a neighbor of his who was also a seasoned gator hunter; he finds out that
Marie has hunting methods that he would have never thought of. Liz and Jessica return to Monster Marsh for
their final day of hunting together, as Jessica will be returning back to her own job; but, as they say, they
are saving the best for last, except that "the best" will be difficult to haul back on the boat, especially
with their regular boat left behind and Liz still recovering from her surgery. And Jeromy and David take time
out away from the marsh to fish out a nuisance gator from a Monroe residents swimming pool, but the hunt turns
bittersweet when the little girl asks what they were going to do with the gator after they catch it. And once
they make a promise, they feel obligated to keep it.
