Swamp People is an American reality/documentary television series that was first broadcast on History on August 22, 2010. The show follows the day-to-day activities for several Cajuns living in the Atchafalaya River Basin swamp in Louisiana, USA who hunt American alligators for a living.
Alligator season in Louisiana begins on the first Wednesday in September and lasts 30 days. In this time limit, many of the alligator hunters, following a tradition dating back 300 years, earn most of their yearly income in a high risk vocation dependent on experience and the whims of weather within strict regulation by wildlife laws. Hunters are each issued a certain number of tags that must be attached to their kills; once they "tag out"(run out of tags), their season is over, and they may no longer kill any more alligators the rest of the season. During this 30 day window, some of these hunters earn most of their annual income culling alligators; therefore, the ultimate goal for the alligator hunters is to tag out before the season ends, with some tagging out in the final hours of the season, and some saving the last tag for their prize catch, the biggest and most menacing alligator they can find. For seasoned hunters, alligator season is the most exciting—and dangerous—time of the year. Most of the hunters spend the rest of the year harvesting other species(fish, crawfish, shrimp, crabs, raccoons, turtles,) to augment their yearly incomes and/or holding down full-time jobs in other industries.
Each season, the series focuses on five teams of alligator hunters, with each episode generally featuring three or four teams, as they hunt gator, being subjected to the elements, and the viciousness of the alligators. Some episodes also feature other aspects of the social and sporting life of the swamp, including fishing and hunting for other animals, such as squirrel.

Original Air-date: Thursday February 21th, 2013
On the second day of gator season, the Landrys are not only struggling to catch gators, they are also struggling to find the biggest gator they can find, in order to win a bet made but Texas boys T-Roy and Bigfoot. While Troy and Brandon hunt in "The Armpit", Jacob and Chase hunt in a gated area of the swamp called "The Gates", where they hope to fund the larger gators there. But even though they shoot a gator, it does not mean that it is dead, or wounded. Junior and Willie also began their gator hunt, but willie questions Juniors ability when not only he let Willie do all the hard work, he also forgot the bullets to the gun, leading to Willie to kill the gator the old fashioned way, with a pocket knife. Bruce and Ron also start their hunt, but their day ended soon after it started when they not only faced closed exits on Interstate 55, but they find that their canal is clogged with Roseau cane, making passage impossible and even getting out just as impossible. And: Glenn Guist, whose home was flooded by Hurricane Isaac, takes time to remember his late brother, Mitchell, who died four months earlier of a heart attack.
