L'unica cosa che differenzia Actarus (Goldrake) da un normale essere umano è il fatto di essere dotato di qualità atletiche e telepatiche eccezionali come la super velocità nella corsa e la straordinaria forza fisica. Ma un giorno, l'insaziabile imperatore Vega mette gli occhi sul pianeta blu del sistema solare: la terra e decide di conquistarla. Così Actarus mette a disposizione il suo bellissimo e potentissimo Ufo Robot Goldrake per difendere la terra dalle orde malvagie e dai super robot di Vega. Goldrake viene aiutato (ma con scarsi risultati) anche dal coraggioso mini-ufo di Alcor, da Venusia e da Maria, la sorella di Actarus comparsa dopo diverso tempo e scampata anche lei dalla distruzione del pianeta. Tuttavia durante le battaglie a bordo di Goldrake, Actarus porta ancora i segni delle ferite lasciate dai Veganiani durante la conquista del suo pianeta Fleed. Infatti il suo braccio ha una ferita che si riapre tutte le volte che viene colpito dai raggi protonici dei robot nemici. Nonostante l'apparenza, la figura di Goldrake e di Actarus non è incline alla violenza, anzi la odia, ma è costretto a combattere per difendere gli esseri umani che lo hanno adottato. La parte che più di tutti affascina del cartone animato di Goldrake è quando Actarus si accorge di un attacco di Vega e si mette in azione per far intervenire Goldrake. Ecco che quindi corre a bordo della sua moto, verso il centro di Ricerche Spaziali del dott. Procton. Con un balzo prodigioso e all'urlo di "Goldrake!", si trasforma indossando una tuta rossa e nera, con le ali stilizzate nel petto e un casco bianco con visiera che gli ricopre interamente il volto. Entrato in una parte del laboratorio sale a bordo del suo Ufo Robot Goldrake e si mette ai comandi, quindi esce da un passaggio segreto del laboratorio, nascosto da una cascata.
