Today, I will resume my comments, concentrating more on the new digital effects and adding a few random facts and tidbits, including comments by the creative staff which may be of interest to you!

*******************************

This is the latest episode from CBS, broadcast on the recent weekend. Sorry for the missing first seconds (containing the first digital Enterprise flyby and a few seconds of dialogue on the bridge), but the file was provided to me in this condition by my source. Even the vxf video ondidn\'t include the first digital flyby, so we have to wait for a complete version in the future!

THE ENHANCEMENTS

Besides a few standard Enterprise flyby scenes, the CBS Digital Team chose to recreate the attacking torpedos from Nomad. And how are they? Well, they are... green! And looking menacing, too! Well done...

The explosion of Nomad in the final act was also redone, and that, too, is an improvement over the original one, which was quite unconvincing with its scratched and grainy FX shots!

ASSORTED COMMENTS

The story was written by John Meredith Lucas, who also wrote \"Patterns of Force\", \"Elaan of Troyius\" and \"That Which Survives\". Interestingly, Lucas also was producer of 10 episodes in Season Two and Three (including \"The Changeling\" itself) and even directed 3 episodes (\"The Ultimate Computer\", \"The Enterprise Incident\" and \"Elaan of Troyius\"). About \"The Changeling\", he had the following to say:

\"I was always fascinated by the concept of the machine as God. That was really the spark for it; the selling point. Although \'The Changeling\' does comment on worshipping the machine, I was not trying to make any particular statement. It was simply a fascinating concept that a machine could become -- in a very real sense -- alive. In the story it was accidental, but it became a very real, judgmental being and a threat.\"

When confronting Lucas with the similarity between this episode and \"Star Trek: The Motion Picture\", he commented:

\"If anything, it\'s a little hard to sustain that plot for a full moive. God knows the effects and everything else that had been done are effects which were pretty damn good in their day, but are primitive today. The plot, of course, I recognized.\"

The episode was directed by trek veteran Marc Daniels, who oftentimes got to direct the more action-packed episodes, and this was what he had to say:

\" \'The Changeling\' required a great deal of ingenuity. We had to have three different Nomads mounted in three different ways. One on a wire, to hover in a room; one on a dolly, to be moved through corridors and onto the bridge; and one on the floor. You just couldn\'t take one on a wire through the door, hence the dolly system. If you wanted to see Nomad in all its authority, you would put it on a wire.\"

Parts of Nomad were later \"cannibalized\" and incorporated into the Romulan Cloaking Device (in \"The Enterprise Incident\") and Flint\'s M-4 robot (in \"Requiem for Methuselah\").

*******************************

Okay, then, that\'s all for today, except to remind you to keep seeding after download, or I will wipe out your memory like Nomad so you won\'t remember to look for the next remastered episodes (until your memory is repaired, of course! Good luck...)

Next week:
\"The Ultimate Computer\" - Not much to do for the digital... Wait a minute... \"The Ultimate...\" \"...ultimate\" \"THE ULTIMATE COMPUTER\"!!!!! FINALLY!!!!! WOW, I\'m soooo excited... that may be \"The Ultimate Challenge\" for the digital team this year, like last year\'s \"Doomsday Machine\". Considering the much underwhelming episodes so far this year, I have the feeling they put much effort in the next one! Fingers crossed, my fellow trekkers!

All right, people, take care, and

LIVE LONG AND PROSPER!!!

Best regards,
Captain Soundtrekker
