Poland Road POI (Garmin) - Police checkpoints, speedcams, etc. (www.softzone.org)

This torrent is a large collection of POI's - points of interest - for Polish roads, created by the Unofficial Map Project (UMP) of Poland. Included in the torrent are the following POI categories:

- Photo radar (fake) locations
- Mobile photo radar locations
- Stationary photo radar locations
- Police (cars/vans) with cameras
- Police checkpoints*
- Dangerous points**
- Misc. safety points
- Railroad crossings

Also included are icons for each CSV set along with an MP3 file (spoken word alert) in Polish.

Having lived - and driven - in Poland for a number of years I can attest to the validity of the data provided. During a spot check I compared my own, self-made "police checkpoint" locations against those provided by the UMP. In most cases the checkpoints matched up, often to within 100 meters or less.

This set of data is from January 2008. I will issuing a new torrent about once a month - or you can always visit http://ump.waw.pl/en/index.html and download the CSV collection yourself. Please note that I have changed all the main POI names from Polish to English. If you download the CSV files from the UMP site ...no English names for you.

* Perhaps where you live is different but in Poland the police do not need a reason to stop you other than "they feel like it." This is ostensibly to catch drunk drivers.

** Poland has a "black point" safety awareness campaign. Black points are where accidents tend to happen due to road conditions, congestion, driver habits, etc. The "dangerous points" file covers those and other locations that the point submitter felt is/was dangerous.
